What is Enterprise Search?

Moveworks Enterprise Search leverages agentic AI to deliver trustworthy, accurate answers that employees are actually looking for — going beyond basic keyword matching to understand employee goals, develop intelligent search plans, and retrieve results across all connected business systems.

“Enterprise Search” refers to two distinct surfaces in the Moveworks platform — an Application employees use as a dedicated search experience, and a Plugin that powers conversational search inside the Moveworks AI Assistant. Both are built on the same underlying content connectors and retrieval engine, with granular permissions enforcement and robust analytics — they’re just different doorways into the same capability.

Understanding this distinction is the foundation for configuring search correctly and positioning it accurately with employees.

Application vs. Plugin

The Enterprise Search Application is a direct path to the Enterprise Search Plugin — a dedicated search surface that opens straight into the search experience. Inside the AI Assistant, the Enterprise Search Plugin is one of many plugins the assistant can call when responding to an employee.

How It Works: Shared Architecture

Both surfaces draw from the same foundation:

  1. Content Connectors ingest and index content from your enterprise systems. Indexed connectors (ServiceNow, Confluence, SharePoint, Google Drive, Zendesk) pre-process content for fast retrieval. Live connectors (Outlook, Jira, Box, Slack, SharePoint) query the source in real time.
  2. Permissions are enforced continuously — permission mirroring ensures employees only see content they have access to in the source system.
  3. Retrieval Engine handles both Indexed Search and Live API Search through the Enterprise Search Plugin, ranking results by relevance before surfacing them.

The same ingested content and the same permissions enforcement power both the Enterprise Search App and the conversational AI Assistant experience.

The Enterprise Search Application and the Enterprise Search Plugin are generally available. Access depends on your entitlement — contact your Moveworks account team to learn more.

The Max Capacity Connectors journey (millions of documents per connector, expanded permission ingestion) is currently in Limited Preview. See Search Connectors for the supported-connector inventory and Max Capacity Setup for setup details.

Enterprise Search as an Application

The Enterprise Search App is a dedicated search surface inside My Moveworks. It delivers a traditional search engine experience with AI enhancements:

  • AI-powered summaries — grounded summaries with source citations appear at the top of every results page
  • Granular filter controls — employees can refine results by source, content type, author, or date
  • Personalized results — a ranked search engine results page tailored to the employee’s context and access
  • Secure access permissions — employees only see content they’re authorized to view in the source system

Enterprise Search as a Plugin

The Enterprise Search Plugin is what allows the Moveworks AI Assistant to answer questions from your enterprise knowledge in conversation:

  • Tackle complex questions — the assistant goes from exploration to answer, synthesizing findings across multiple sources rather than returning a list
  • One plugin among many — Enterprise Search runs alongside the AI Assistant’s other plugins, so employees can search knowledge and take action in the same conversation without switching surfaces
  • Available on multiple surfaces — the same conversational search experience works across Slack, Teams, web, intranets, and service portals
