AI Assistant Experience in Slack
These features are in Controlled Availability and become generally available on October 29, 2026. Until then, they are available only to organizations in the Controlled Availability program. To join, contact your Moveworks account team.
Employees chat with the Moveworks AI Assistant in a Slack DM. Some features are enabled for everyone, and administrators enable the others on the Slack bot in Moveworks Setup. To install the AI Assistant in Slack, see Slack.
Features at a Glance
For live agent chats in Slack, see Live Agent Message Brokering.
Channel Resolver, the AI Assistant’s behavior in support channels, is configured per channel. See Channel Resolver.
Reasoning Steps
While the AI Assistant works on a request, it posts a short plan of the steps it is taking, such as searching knowledge or looking up a ticket, and updates each step as it finishes. When the answer is ready, the plan collapses to a single line labeled AI steps. Employees can expand the line to review the steps.
Streaming Answers
The answer appears in the DM as the AI Assistant writes it, so employees can start reading before the full answer is ready. Streaming requires threads. When streaming finishes, Slack shows (edited) next to the message, because Slack labels every message that changes after it is first posted.
Tables
When an answer contains tabular data, such as a list of tickets or time-off balances, the AI Assistant sends it as a native Slack table instead of formatted text.
Rich Text
Answers use native Slack formatting for headings, lists, bold text, and links. Longer answers stay readable on desktop and mobile.
Optional Features
These features are disabled until an administrator enables them. Each one is a setting on the Slack bot in Moveworks Setup and applies to everyone who uses that bot.
Threads
Employees can keep separate conversations in separate threads of their DM with the AI Assistant. Each new message an employee sends in the DM starts a new thread, and the AI Assistant answers inside it.
The context the AI Assistant uses depends on where the employee writes:
Replies keep each conversation on its own topic, so an employee can follow up on a laptop issue in one thread and a benefits question in another. A new message can build on the employee’s recent conversation: after a time-off conversation, a new message that asks “How do I apply for it?” is answered about time off. To return to an earlier conversation without other topics mixed in, employees reply in that conversation’s thread.
Native Pop-Ups
Each answer has a … menu. References, feedback, and Get Help open from that menu in a Slack pop-up instead of a web page. Feedback and Get Help selections in the pop-up appear in the same reports as other feedback and Get Help selections.
Work Objects
Tickets appear as live cards in the conversation. Employees can open a card to see the ticket’s current details and act on it, for example to add a comment or resolve the ticket, without leaving Slack. Work Objects needs a change to your Slack app before you enable it.
